In this stage, children convert their fundamental movement skills into fundamental sport skills.
Referred to as the “Golden Age of Learning”, children are ready to being training according to more formalized methods. The emphasis is still on general sport skills suitable to a number of activities. And a greater amount of time is spent on training and practicing skills than competing.
In gymnastics, children continue to develop, extend and refine flexibility and the ABCs (agility, balance, coordination and strength).
The gymnasts develop sound basic skills on large apparatus and hand apparatus to ensure successful, ongoing and progressive participation in recreational, performance or competitive gymnastics.
For many participants, their gymnastics training allows an easy transition to another sport or into the Active for Life stage.
