CANGYM coach and athlete recommendations

Bronze level (burgundy, red, tan and bronze badges)

The bronze level is centered on six of the fundamental movement patterns (FMPs) of artistic gymnastics

For all badges, the recommended coach certification is Gymnastics Foundations or Level 1 and the training hours per week are set at one hour.

To pass a badge in the bronze level, all skills must be successfully completed.

Silver level (purple, blue, turquoise and silver badges)

The silver level is centered on combining the FMPs to learn basic skills on specific women’s artistic gymnastics and men’s artistic gymnastics apparatus.

For the purple and blue badges, the recommended coach certification is Gymnastics Foundations or Level 1 and the training hours per week are set at 1.5 hours.

For the turquoise badge, the recommended coach certification is Gymnastics Foundations or Level 1 and the training hours are set at two hours, two times a week.

For the silver badge, the recommended coach certification is Level 2 Technical and the training hours are set at two hours, two times a week.

To pass a badge in the silver level, 85 percent of the skills (17 out of 20) must be successfully completed, with a maximum of one unsuccessful skill per apparatus.

For the silver badge, the participants must also perform a mini-routine on each event containing five to six “tan to silver” level skills.

Gold level (orange, yellow, green, gold badges)

The gold level is centered on learning more advanced skills that have been designated as women’s artistic gymnastics or men’s artistic gymnastics “target skills” for the CANGYM program.

For the orange and yellow badges, the recommended coach certification is Level 2 Technical and the training hours per week are set at three hours, two times a week.

For the green and gold badges, the recommended coach certification is Level 3 Technical and the training hours are set at three hours, three times a week.

To pass a badge in the gold level, the participants must be able to successfully perform the minimum number of required skills per apparatus (included on the evaluation sheet).

For the gold badge, the participants must also perform a mini-routine on each event containing five to six “turquoise to gold” level skills.
